  • For information in English regarding application and admission to DHBW, including assessment of foreign academic credentials, please refer to the section "Application & Admission" on the DHBW main website.

  • If you are already familiar with the contents of the websites mentioned above, and want to learn about the so-called Deltaprüfung in particular, please read on below or find out more on the German pages of our website.

Do I have to take the Deltaprüfung?

As you may have already learnt from your research: anyone who intends to enrol in an undergraduate study programme at DHBW requires a study contract with a workplace training provider (Dualer Partner), and must meet the legal admission requirements for studying at DHBW. International prospective students must also provide proof of their German language skills.

Regarding the legal admission requirements, it is important to understand that in Germany there are various types of higher education entrance qualifications. The regulations for admission to a programme at DHBW depend on the type of qualification you have obtained.

Accordingly, the Deltaprüfung is not a requirement for all prospective students but applies only to two specific groups with certain types of higher education entrance qualifications: those with a Fachhochschulreife and some with a Fachgebundene Hochschulreife.

It is very important to clarify in advance whether the qualification you obtained abroad is assessed as equivalent to a Fachhochschulreife, Fachgebundene Hochschulreife, or another qualification. Please only apply for the Deltaprüfung after confirming that it is a requirement for you.

Prospective students whose highest educational qualification is the Fachhochschulreife are required to successfully complete the Deltaprüfung in order to study at DHBW – regardless of the subject specialisation of the Fachhochschulreife or the intended study programme. The same applies if a qualification obtained abroad has been recognised as equivalent to a Fachhochschulreife.

For prospective students whose highest educational qualification is the Fachgebundene Hochschulreife, it is only necessary to complete the Deltaprüfung if the subject-specific qualification of the Fachgebundene Hochschulreife does not qualify them to enrol in the desired study programme at DHBW. The same applies if a qualification obtained abroad has been recognised as equivalent to a Fachgebundene Hochschulreife.

If you do not belong to one of these two groups and/or are already formally eligible for the desired study programme at DHBW without requiring the Deltaprüfung, participation in the Deltaprüfung is neither necessary nor possible.

Applying for the Deltaprüfung with a Foreign Educational Qualification

As the ZHL Testzentrum of DHBW, we are the organisational unit responsible for the Deltaprüfung at DHBW. On our website, you can find further and detailed information on this topic. Please note that this information is only available in German, as German language proficiency is a requirement for admission to any DHBW study programme.

We strongly recommend that you review all the information on our website and resolve any questions before submitting your application for the Deltaprüfung. The ZHL Testzentrum website provides information about the Deltaprüfung, including:

Furthermore, before applying for the Deltaprüfung, you must first request an assessment of your foreign academic qualifications from the appropriate authority.

The Deltaprüfung is only required and possible if your qualification is assessed as equivalent to a Fachgebundene Hochschulreife, where the subject-specific qualification does not qualify you to enrol in the desired study programme at DHBW, or as a Fachhochschulreife. In this case, you may proceed with your application for the Deltaprüfung.

When submitting your Deltaprüfung application documents, which consist of the Anmeldeformular and your CV, please ensure that you enclose both proof of your foreign educational qualification and the certificate confirming the assessment of your foreign qualification, issued by the relevant authority mentioned above. (For further details on the application process in German, please refer to Termine, Anmeldung und Zulassung.)

Please note that once we receive your Deltaprüfung application form by post, the application will be subject to a non-refundable fee, currently set at 170 euros. This fee applies regardless of whether you are required to complete the Deltaprüfung or if you decide to withdraw your application.

Questions?

If you are unsure whether the certificate confirming the assessment of your foreign educational qualification is sufficient for admission to the Deltaprüfung, or if you have any other questions regarding the exam, you are welcome to contact the ZHL Testzentrum by phone or email.

Please note that the ZHL Testzentrum is exclusively responsible for the Deltaprüfung (and the Eignungsprüfung, a university entrance examination aimed specifically at prospective students with professional training and work experience). Therefore, we are unable to provide any information regarding the assessment of foreign qualifications, language proficiency, study programmes, or application procedures for undergraduate study programmes.
